В прологе «Мученичества Пиония» утверждается, что оно осно- вано на сочинении самого мученика, написанном им в тюрьме. В не- давней работе Э. Хилхорста было высказано предположение, что этот текст принадлежит не самому Пионию, а создан кем-то из его уче- ников. Мы полагаем, что критика Хилхорста заслуживает внимания, но нуждается в серьезной корректировке, по крайней мере, в отно- шении двух речей Пиония (Mart. Pionii 4; 12, 3–14). Анализ их содер- жания, контекст и параллели с античной и христианской литературой демонстрирует их подлинность.
