Summary\n
The paper is dedicated to certain phonetic and morphological features of the spontaneous speech of an informant from the Menetes village from the Greek island Karpathos. The fragment of the informant’s speech recorded by the author in 2011 during the fieldwork on the island is provided as an example. This fragment partly illustrates contemporary condition of the southern dialect zone of the island, where Menetes village is located. The text analysis enables to distinguish some new phonetic dialectisms that were not mentioned by the earlier researchers of the Karpathos island idioms. This article is dedicated to the semantic analysis of the quietness-motif in the Introduction to Pindar’s Ode Pyth.8 and the lexeme ἡσυχία. The article considers poetic features of Pindar`s language. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that the mental aspect represented in the semantics of personified description of quietness and lexeme ἡσυχία is crucial for Pindar’s style.
