Summary\n
The author analyses the dependence of Latin verb argument order (DI/ID, where D – Direct object, I – Indirect object) upon three paradigmaticdimensions: semantic, pragmatic and deictic. Using the MOUSAIOS database, the author shows the neutral argument order (DI) and explainsmultiple deviations from it (ID) by the competition of afore- mentioneddimensions. Many deviations from standard argument order can beexplained by the place of its denotatum in the animacy hierarchy scale. Thus, the standard DI order in constructions with nominal argumentsalternates with diverse ID order in case of pronominal arguments.
