Summary\n
The article deals with the syntax of negation markers in Hittite. Both positions in the clause and scope of negations are explored. It is claimed that Hittite negation markers with sentential scope can be in three positions: the canonical one immediately in front of the verb, and two non-canonical ones: the clause initial position, and the clause internal position which is not preverbal. The difference between the three positions is determined not by the scopal properties of negations, but by their information structure status, namely the kind of focus they mark.
