Summary\n
The present paper deals with the phonetic phenomena in the West Macedonian Greek dialects as compared with the corresponding phonetic prosesses in other Balkan languages, such as vowel reduction (open vowels being changed into closed ones, the loss of vowels), and the palatalization of velar consonants and sonsnts. These developments are characteristic of the contacting Balkan languages of different linguistic families: Greek, Albanian, Bulgarian, Aromanian.
