The Greeks highly appreciated spare time and regarded it the distinctive quality of a free man. Archeological discoveries on the ruins of the ancient city of Olbia give us opportunity to learn about types of collective and personal leisure. Durind the daytime citizens met in stoa on agora; they could visit the theatre, the gymnasium, the stadion, and in Roman times – the termes. Personal types of leisure included evening meals in the circle of friends, hunting, entertaining games and gambling. Well-educated citizens spent their time on reading and some of them wrote their own works.
