Four treatises by David, the Neoplatonic philosopher (the Prolegomena philosophiae, the commentary on Porphyry’s Isagoge, the commentary on the Categories and the commentary on the Prior Analytics) were translated into Armenian in the 6–7 centuries and transmitted in the manuscripts under the name ‚Դաւիթ Անյաղթ‘, i. e. David the Invincible, whilst in Greek manuscripts David’s epithets are θεοφιλέστατος and θεόφρων. On the other hand, a lot of other translations from Greek and original Armenian texts are also attributed to David the Invincible. It is clear, however, that all these texts could not have been written or translated by the same person. There is a reason to assume that the epithet ‘Invincible’ was only used for a Christian writer or translator, not for the Greek Neoplatonic philosopher. I try to prove it by analyzing information from Armenian sources about philosopher David, and some other Davids who worked in Armenian literature and philosophy in the 5–7 centuries.
