Summary\n
The paper discusses some characteristic features of Rigvedic synonymy and polysemy. The Sanskrit language (from the most ancient Vedic texts on) is remarkable for its capability, on the one hand, to express the same meaning using different lexical forms, and, on the other hand, to combine a wide range of meanings within one word. It makes the language mechanism very flexible and apt for word-plays.
